A Day of Thanks...

Happy Thanksgiving Independence Day

Independence Day is easily is my favorite holiday because I'm always reminded of how much I'm thankful for (yes, very similar if not identical to the  Thanksgiving tradition).  It's often a tradition in my family that every 4th of July, we would gather around the dinner table and each person would say what they are thankful for (again, it is also perfectly acceptable for this tradition to occur on Thanksgiving Day).

Now that I live in Chicago, and my family is hundreds of miles away, I decided that the tradition had to continue!  This year, in the midst of all the patriotic outfits, dancing, drinking and laughter, I stopped to watch everything going around me and it really made me thankful for all the wonderful things and people in my life.  For instance...

1) I'm so thankful for the Hot dog pants.  These pants are known as the traveling "Keg Stand Pants" for our group (and yes, AH is eating a hot dog while wearing the pants)

Definition of Keg Stand Pants:  Keg Stand pants are the pants that are bought into a house party so the ladies who are wearing dresses can pull them on to do a keg stand without showing off their "goodies" to everyone in attendance.

  2) I'm so thankful that we have the freedom to eat whatever we want, whenever we want. If you want a funnel cake at 3:00PM on a Wednesday, all you have to do is ask!

3) I'm so happy that we have such a talented group of friends who love to show off their crafts at random
(Crafts include but are not limited to:  French braiding, modeling, and shooting off champagne corks the manliest way possible)

   4)  I'm so thankful that Pinterest has entered our lives so our experimenting with food will generate more successful results!

 5) But most of all, I'm so thankful to have found such an amazing Chicago family.  They are a fantastic melting pot of people who absolutely enjoy being around each other, fully support one another and are always up for a great time
(please note that a few key members of the fam are missing...sorry MM & BB!)

What are you all thankful for? :-)

Until next time...

Girls Night Out Indeed

Wow what a weekend.  Had such a great night with the peeps last night.

The day started with some BBQ action to celebrate the bday of some of our favorite guys, D & A.  What part of Summer Shandy, 90 degree, humid weather and lots o' sausages doesn't sound fun to you??  Well all of it should because it was a blast.  The Ogilvy Beer Olympbic flip cup team was in full force, the beer was flowing fluidly, (mostly because we had to stay hydrated in the heat) and tons of laughter and singing all around.  I think the flip cup most have gotten the best of me since I only managed to snag one picture.

Sometimes the sign of a good night is not having any proof! Happy bday D & A!

On to the next stop of the night...Cafe Ba-Ba-Rebba with gal pals AH & RK.  After a few pitchers of Sangria, bacon wrapped dates and kissing girls through the iron bars of the patio (shot-out to MH & JV -- love random encounters) we were feeling great!  We decided to go downtown Chi town to get a little jiggy with it.  Needless to say, we were the only people not associated with a bachelotte party, but we made it work.  We popped in Mercer 113 and Sub 51 (yes we went there I have the stamp to prove it) and it was suprisingly great time.  Hard to not have fun when you are with these chicas.

After sharing some laughs, spectacular dancing and interesting conversations with the tourists and brides to be, I decided to make my way back up North and into my bed for the night....RK & AH, however,  had no such plan.  They trekked over to Jacqueline's on the corner of Broadway and Rosco in Lakeview.  This is the kind of place that Yelp catagorizes as a "dive bar" but is apparently a great freaking time.  RK recapped the evening over breakfast this morning.  They told their fellow consumers that they were celebrating AH's 27th birthday and proceeded to accept the free shots that were thrown their way until the wee hours of the morning.  As most people have experienced, once they 3AM hour rolls around, the hunger sets in.  Good thing "Jackie's" has a microwave readily available and out in the open so the guests can heat up their frozen dinners and hot pockets.  After they ate their fill of microwaved goods, RK & AH both exclaimed that it was "the perfect end to a perfect night" so I invite all of you to check it out soon.

All that fun and happiness lead to a not so happy Sunday AM but that was quickly resolved due to our amazing breakfast complete with bacon, omletes, biscuits, fruit, Donkey chips & homemade guac.  I mean -- we felt like allstars so its only fitting that we had the breakfast of champions.

Great weekend kids, hope you all had a fantastic one as well!  Ugh, Monday tomorrow.

Love,
Lue
